News on Divine

Having heard nothing from Divine for about a week and a half after he was deported to Italy, our pastor’s wife Anja had a call from him yesterday and another one today. He’s currently in Sicily (land of the mafiosi!), and is staying in a hostel run by a Catholic charity. Anja said he’s fine and in good spirits, which is a definite answer to prayer. We’re really glad that he’s in a charity hostel rather than in some State-run camp, where conditions can be pretty shocking. He’s applied for permanent (or at least long-term) residence, and has already been given a temporary residence permit which allows him to work. This is more than he had at any time during the 18 months or so he was in France.
Seems sad to think we might not see him again, but the main thing is that God is with him and guiding his every step. How often things work out in a way that is totally other than what we would expect…His ways truly are higher than our ways.

So good to hear news about Divine and receive it with a mixture of relief, to know he is safe and in a decent hostel, elation that he is in good spirits (bless him and thank you Lord!) but a real measure of sadness too. I only met him a few times but he touched my heart in a deeper way than I realised until recently. God surely has an amazing destiny for this courageous and faithfilled young man.
