Inauguration

Our church has been in its “new” premises since March 2006, but last weekend we held our official inauguration. The main reason for the delay was the amount of work that needed to be done on the building to get it into shape. Most of the work on the main “public” parts of the building (mainly the meeting areas) has now been completed, and it really is a transformation compared to what it looked like when we first moved in.
We had two inauguration events. The first was an “official” ceremony on Friday evening when we had invited representatives from the town hall, local businesses, plus pastors from all the churches in the surrounding area. There were about 100 people crammed in and the actual meeting was followed by food and drinks. Then on Sunday afternoon was the church celebration - this was much less formal, and more of a time for the church and friends to celebrate God’s goodness, thank Him for His provision and look forward to the future.
All in all it was a good weekend. I particularly enjoyed seeing the church full, and really look forward to seeing it that full every Sunday. It was great to see non-Christians (the main purpose of the weekend was really to be an evangelistic opportunity), and also a number of people who drifted away from their churches months or years ago. We pray that there will be fruit in terms of new disciples and recommitted lives.
It was also a pretty knackering weekend, and on Monday morning I promptly came down with a severe head cold and have been feeling pretty lousy since. Oh well, it was an excuse to have a drop of whisky before bed last night….
