Worship teaching in Paris

Posted by Rob under: General; Worship .

Yesterday I was teaching on a worship training course at a church in Paris. It’s a church pastored by an American-Canadian couple where I spent a weekend last October. They run a “worship school” every other Saturday morning for an academic year. The subject I was given was “The King and His Kingdom”. I will admit to being a little nervous - though I’m well used to preaching and speaking in a variety of settings, this was the first time I’d been called to do extended, in-depth teaching to a group of expectant students who were paying to be there. It went very well, and in the end I only used about two thirds of the material I had prepared. I hope to go back and teach there again from time to time. One of the reasons I enjoyed the weekend so much is that I feel that this kind of training is part of what I’m called to do.

I stayed at the church for the rest of the day to attend an event called “Paris en Feu”. This is part of an ongoing series of worship and intercession events called “France en Feu”, consisting of extended events in various cities across France lasting from a few hours to 24 hours. Teams from different churches take turns to lead worship and intercession; I was invited to join the local church’s team for their session yesterday. It was a fun experience, and very interesting from the perspective of being one of the few types of events that brings people together from different churches.

Looking to the week ahead, this Wednesday my sister, brother-in-law and their two kids will be arriving, together with my Mum. They’re staying until Sunday afternoon. Really looking forward to it. Apart from Grapevine last year, it will be the first time we’ve all been together since we came to France in November 2005.
