Understanding Zimbabwe

Posted by Rob under: General .

I’ve been following the Zimbabwe situation closely over the last few years. Our old UK church used to ssupport some missionaries there, and I actually went in 2000 on a missions trip to begin work on building an orphanage.

It’s very hard not to develop an intransigent, black and white view of a regime like Mugabe’s. I came across two interesting articles today which draw on interviews and experiences of a South African journalist. They give a fascinating insight into the psychology of a dictator, and perhaps begin to help us understand how he has got to where he is, and why he can’t (or won’t) let go. As always, there is more to the situation than meets the eye. (Now, I’m not saying any of his actions are justified, just that, as usual, things are not quite as clear-cut as we’d like them to be.)

Read the articles here and here.
