I have thought for a long time that the so-called “prosperity gospel” as peddled by parts of western Christian culture is an insult to God and furthermore an insult to his people in areas of the world where they are very material-poor, but spiritually rich. Following this teaching, we are led to conclude that God is blessing us if we can have a superb car, TV, house, etc. - and those who do not have these things are, er, not blessed. I would rather be satisfied by that crystal stream which issues from the throne of God (as are his saints in less well-off parts of the world). No amount of plasma TVs and general impedimenta can slake that thirst…. [here endeth the rant].
